2026 Match Play Brackets

Below are the 2026 Match Play Brackets and Rules.  Please make sure you follow the new rules.

CAP PATROL applies to ALL Match Play Rounds, as they are considered COMPETITION rounds. Please make sure you turn in your scorecards to the Pro Shop for posting.  You DO NOT post your own scores.  If the Pro Shop is closed, there will be a box in the Men’s Locker Room for you to deposit your Scorecards.

FOR MATCH PLAY ONLY – Once the match is completed, no scores should be entered on the card (i.e. if the match ends on 16, no scores would be entered for 17 or 18). This is the new method for posting competition rounds in Cap Patrol. Using the USGA Treatment of Holes Not Played Score Differential™ is created based on the holes played.  The player’s expected Score Differential for the number of remaining holes not played is added to that value to produce an 18-hole Score Differential™.

Match Play Update 10-1-2023

You may think you have plenty of time to get your match in since it is only late September, but dates are deceiving. Over 90% of the available tee times for the year have already occurred. The course closure, tournaments, holidays, course conditions after reseeding, vacations, later sunrises and earlier sunsets eats up the 4th quarter tee times. So please get those matches completed.

SMGA MATCH PLAY 7-20-2023

You can find the latest Match Play bracket updates in the attached file or in the Match Play book in the Men’s locker room.
We have 77% of the matches completed as of this date and five matches over a month overdue. The next two months will be heavy with vacations, golf tournaments, planned surgeries, etc. for those still in a bracket. It is definitely not fair for those overdue matches to encroach on the available planned time schedule of those still in their brackets. Those players with overdue matches have been contacted and told they must forfeit their match if they have not responded to the SMGA by 7-25-2023 with a schedule of their match.

Thanks to all of you who have worked to get your matches in on schedule.

5-1-2023 Match Play Update

Attached is the updated 2023 SMGA Match Play Brackets spreadsheet.  We have just a couple of matches overdue at this time and most have been scheduled for this week. You will also find these brackets updated in the SMGA Match Play book located in the men’s locker room.
We started with 142 players and are now down to 82 players.   Of the original 274 matches we have completed 160 matches and have 114 matches left to play.

Thanks to all for staying with the schedule and recording or submitting your results in a timely manner.

As a reminder, the email addresses of all players are in the attached spreadsheet and in the Match Play Book.

MATCH PLAY 3-28-2023 UPDATE

This year we again have 9 brackets of play with 142 individual players, 386 entries and a total of 274 different matches to be played. Wow!  Another great year with more participants than last year even with our reduced membership.  A lot of work is involved, but it is a pleasure to set up so that all can enjoy the excitement of match play.   But to make it all work out, we need all of you to be responsible for setting up your matches on time and recording your match results in the Match Play book.

The brackets, email list, 4-Ball calculations, match scheduler worksheet and match play rules can all be found in the attached file. But it is important for you to email in your match results and to update the Match Play book in the men’s locker room.  The book update allows everyone to find out who they play next in a timely manner and the email list provides addresses without having to contact the SMGA.

Good Luck to all participants and enjoy the adrenaline rush of SMGA Match Play.

12-12-2022 MATCH PLAY UPDATE

Attached is the updated 2022 SMGA Match Play brackets as of 12-12-2022. The last tab in the workbook has the emails of those participating members.

Only a few matches left to be played to close out the 2022 SMGA Match Play season. This time of the year the course is extremely busy, so check out your matches and get them scheduled.

The Match Play Committee is considering limiting match play brackets for those players that are consistently behind on completing their matches by the scheduled deadline. Too much effort being put into pushing the matches forward for the few repeat offenders when 95% of the players get their matches done on time

Thanks, from the Match Play Committee
