2021 SMGA Saturday Points Leader and Ironman Awards

In a culmination of a year’s worth of Saturday golfing, Scott Pruneau won the SMGA’s 2021 “Points Leader” award with a commanding 2500-point lead over second place finisher Eric Wagner.

Bill Linck won the 2021 SMGA’s “Ironman” award for competing in the most events. For the first time in the Ironman award history, there was a tie for the Ironman position. Bill Linck tied with Jim Cole on the most events played. Bill came out on top with the tie breaker being the lowest average net score for the year.

Congratulations to all that competed. We had 188 different players compete this year in the SMGA Saturday Golf Events with 2044 rounds of golf.

2021 Seville Shootout

Congratulations for Holes-in-One during the 2021 Seville Shootout to both Michael Wysner (Hole # 10) and Jim Pepping (Hole #9). Each pulled in $1520 for their efforts as there were 76 competitors in the tournament. Nice to see a couple of smiling faces around the club.

2020 Player of the Year – Mark Ewing

Congratulations to Mark Ewing for winning our 2020 Player of the Year (POTY). Mark, who just made the cut to get into the tournament, played as a +1 and shot 6 under gross (4 under net) over the 2 day tournament! Great shooting Mark.

Runners up were Carl Wilson in second place, and Gerald Kitchens in third.

Congratulations to all, and we look forward to seeing you back in the 2021 season.

Regards,
-Eric

Benches Donated by the SMGA

The Seville Men’s Golf Association recently donated the money and effort to install two benches so that walkers at Seville can enjoy a few minutes of rest halfway through each side of the course. The benches are located near the tee boxes on hole #5 and hole #14. These benches and their foundations are built to last and should still be in good shape a decade from now. Probably in a lot better shape than the old guys that installed them. Thanks to all those that stepped in and helped.

Left to Right, Jeff Broker, Wags, Peaches and Mick McGinty.
Bench on #5 for all the long ballers to wait for the fairway to clear 🙂

2018 Cactus Cup

Congratulations to the 2018 Cactus Cup winners.  Left to right, Mark Ewing, Omar Daal, John Crane, Scott Mitchell, Harold Blake, Karl Theodorson, Bryan Ashbaugh (aka Ashballs, hiding behind Lacey), Allen Lacey, Chris Burgau, Scott Pruneau and Brad Ingarfield.

Next year, maybe a “chip-in” to buy Ewing a proper white shirt.  Geez…..

Web Site issues

I’m aware there is an issue with viewing any stats or standings on the web site.  Rest assured, all the data is safe, it just seems to be a problem with the rendering engine (WordPress).

Any WordPress, PHP, CSS, Javascript experts out there?

Hope to get things fixed this weekend, but like I said, all data is safe, so standings and ultimate scores will be reflected correctly when the site is repaired.

Regards,

-Eric

2018 – New Hole Handicaps

In addition to the re-rating of the course by the USGA that occurred at the end of 2017, the Seville Handicap committee has taken many years of data to re-evaluate the handicap rating of each hole.  The result, there are changes.  Please see attached presentation to explain the methods that were used for this analysis, which was based on over 7,000 rounds played over that last years.
